St. Maximilian Kolbe, a Polish Franciscan priest, founded the Militia Immaculata to spread devotion to the Blessed Virgin Mary. During World War II, he was arrested and sent to Auschwitz, where he volunteered to take the place of a fellow prisoner sentenced to death. His heroic act of love and unwavering faith have made him a powerful patron for those in need of hope, healing, and courage.
