About St. Josephine Bakhita
Feast Day: February 8
Patron of: Sudan, South Sudan, and human-trafficking survivors
Born in Darfur, Sudan, and kidnapped into slavery as a child, St. Josephine Bakhita endured unimaginable suffering. Her life was transformed when she encountered Christianity and the tender mercy of God. After gaining her freedom, she joined the Canossian Sisters in Italy and spent the rest of her life in humble service. Her story is one of forgiveness, healing, and unwavering trust in God’s love through even the most painful trials.
