About the Saint
Feast Day: October 19
Patronage: North America, missionaries, and the conversion of indigenous peoples
Saint Isaac Jogues (1607–1646) was a French Jesuit missionary and one of the North American Martyrs. He traveled to New France (Canada and New York) to share the Gospel with the Huron and Iroquois peoples, enduring extreme hardship, captivity, and torture. Despite great suffering, he returned to missionary work with extraordinary courage. His martyrdom in upstate New York remains a powerful testimony of perseverance, faith, and love for Christ.
