About the Saint
Feast Day: November 17
Patronage: Bakers, brides, Catholic charities, Secular Franciscan Order, hospitals
St. Elizabeth of Hungary was a medieval princess turned saint, known for her immense compassion and radical charity. Despite her royal status, she dedicated her life to serving the poor and sick, often tending to them with her own hands. After becoming a widow at age 20, she embraced voluntary poverty and joined the Third Order of St. Francis. She is famously associated with the “miracle of roses,” when bread she carried to the poor turned into roses as a sign of God’s grace. Her life is a radiant example of humility, love, and trust in God amid deep suffering.
