About St. Andrew Kim Taegon
Feast Day: September 16 (celebrated with Korean Martyrs)
Patron of: Korean clergy, Korean Catholics, persecuted Christians, missionaries, seminarians, religious freedom
Born into a time of violent persecution, Andrew Kim Taegon grew up in a faithful Catholic family and journeyed over 1,200 miles to study for the priesthood in Macau. As Korea's first native priest, he secretly returned to minister to his people, encouraging the underground Church through word and sacrament. His bravery and pastoral heart shone brightly even in captivity. Before his execution at just 25 years old, he boldly testified, “It is for Him that I die.” His martyrdom helped sow the seeds of the thriving Korean Catholic Church.
