About St. Aloysius Gonzaga
Feast Day: June 21
Patron of: Young students, Christian youth, Jesuit scholastics, teenagers, AIDS patients and caregivers, the blind, those with eye problems
Born into Italian nobility, St. Aloysius Gonzaga renounced power, prestige, and wealth to embrace a life of humility and holiness. Entering the Jesuits at 17, he devoted himself to prayer, penance, and caring for the poor. During a deadly plague in Rome, he courageously served the sick, carrying victims to hospitals and tending to them with deep tenderness. He contracted the illness himself and died at just 23—peacefully and joyfully, having foretold the very day he would meet the Lord. Though young, Aloysius’s faith and virtue continue to inspire youth to pursue purity, courage, and compassion.
